Simple Past Tense
The Simple Past Tense is used to describe actions or events that happened and were completed in the past. In the context of hospitality, it is often used to talk about past experiences, events, or actions that occurred in hotels, restaurants, or other hospitality-related settings.
The Formula And The Examples
- Positive Sentences
Formula:
Subject + past tense of the verb
Examples:
- I attended a job interview last week for a marketing position.
- The candidate discussed their previous work experience during the interview.
- The interviewer asked me about my strengths and weaknesses.
- She arrived at the interview location 15 minutes early.
- The HR manager explained the company’s benefits package.
- Negative Sentences
Formula:
Subject + did not (didn’t) + base form of the verb
Examples:
- I did not (didn’t) get the job after the interview.
- The candidate didn’t provide sufficient details about their achievements.
- The interviewer did not (didn’t) inquire about my long-term career goals.
- She wasn’t well-prepared for the interview.
- The HR manager didn’t mention the salary during the interview.
- Interrogative Sentences
Formula:
Did + subject + base form of the verb?
Examples:
- Did you have a job interview yesterday?
- Did the candidate mention their relevant skills during the interview?
- Was the interview process stressful?
- Did she arrive on time for the interview?
- Did the HR manager discuss the company culture with you?
